- One head cabbage, sliced very thin.
- 2 c rice, brown or white
- 1-3 onions, sliced very thin.
- Butter and/or oil
- Handful currants
- 2 large cans chopped or crushed tomatoes, drained well.
- pepper
- salt

- Saute cabbage in oil and/or butter 10 minutes.
- Add onions and rice. Saute another five minutes.
- Add 1.5 quarts hot water and some ground pepper. Simmer until done.
- Add drained tomatoes. Stir and taste for salt.
