LAYLIA: Four Workshops and a Dance Concert!

LAYLIA is a dance artist with a bewitching and completely unpredictable stage persona. Her fluid, entrancing movements and her ability to incorporate humor into her performances are stellar.

Friday, June 11

PRIVATE LESSONS with LAYLIA: Laylia will be in on Friday to teach some private/semi-private lessons. Now taking reservations. $45 an hour for a private. $70 for a semi-private.

Saturday, June 12: DANCE

Noon- 2:00 OOEY GOOEY a la LAYLIA:

Laylia's signature ooey gooey moves: through torso, arms and hips, from one movement to another and all around your dance space. Learn combinations that can be used in a Laylia original choreography or your own personal performance style.

2:00- 2:30 Light refreshments.

2:30- 4:30 SHOWTIME!

No one entertains an audience like Laylia! Make your dance into pure fun for you and your audience. Workshop will include various levels of interaction practice and students will learn to deal with pressure situations while maintaining their stage "character".

7:00 Our incomparable LOVELY LATE NIGHT concert and dinner party.

Doors open at 7:00, buffet served at 7:15, one-hour dance concert at 8 PM.

Sunday, June 13: DRUM

Laylia learned drumming a decade ago while performing with the Turkish band Turkana.

Noon- 2:00 DRUMMING 101

Bring your dombek, your large pan, or your flat-bottomed pot or trash can! Class will include holding your drum and different tonations. Students will learn to maintain a steady beat, explore several common Arabic rhythms and transitions.

2:00- 2:30 Light refreshments.

2:30- 4:30 BEYOND the BASICS

Learn effective rhythm and embellishments. Take what you know and learn to use it in performance.
