What is Bollywood?

Bollywood is the informal term popularly used for the Hindi Language film industry based in Mumbai, India. This includes the music, dance, and dazzling stagecraft used in telling epic stories of love, lost, and fantastic adventures. Bollywood is the largest film producer in India and blends realism with fantasy to deliver stars such as Aishwarya Rai to lead the pop culture of the Indian community around the world.

Many of the intricate hand gestures and expression of classical Indian dance such as Bharatantayam and Kathak are found in Bollywood Dance to communicate the songs meaning to the audience. Lip-syncing of India’s most popular songs by the movie stars add a modern edge and all lead dancers are adorned with elaborate head dress, hand decorations, ankle bells, and color or beaded Sari.
